You have about 3 seconds to grab that potential customer visiting your website. Will they be hooked? Or will they move on because writing is not one of your many useful skills? We’ve all been there — you know what you want to say, but struggle with putting it into words.
I’m Richard, I’m a writer and editor with almost four decades’ experience. Here’s what I do when I am fine-tuning my own work (including this!):
- Put it down and go for a walk — you’ll be surprised what you pick up when you get back!
- Put it into a completely different format and font — this tricks your brain into thinking there’s something new there.
- Read it out loud. We all talk to ourselves — or maybe that’s just me?! I find that this really helps with flow.
- Give it to another writer — someone who will offer an honest opinion. I don’t give it to a mate who will be sure to pat me on the back and whisper all those nice things they think I want to hear. I give it to someone who may tear it to shreds — in a nice way, of course.
Or — get in touch.
Remember — you have three seconds!
